Our Story

Vietnamese Baptist Church of Garland was founded in 1983 as a mission church of First Baptist Church of Garland. Services were held in FBCG's chapel, led by Pastor Dao Tran. We held our first service on November 20, 1983, and had about twenty people in attendance. Through God's favor, He has allowed us to build upon our humble beginnings.

In July 1991, we called our second pastor, Dr. John Nguyen. As our church continued to grow, Pastor John and church leaders began praying about the church's future, exploring the possibility of having our own building. In July 1994, the Lord made it possible for us to purchase the property at 219 North 7th Street to be our new church home. We held our first service at this location on September 4, 1994.

In June 1998, the Lord allowed our church, with assistance from the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT), to start a new Vietnamese Baptist mission church in San Antonio.

Out of this church, God has called seven members into pastoral ministry and two missionaries who are serving within the States and overseas.

We are thankful for all that God has done through this church, and we continue to seek His guidance and vision for our future.
