Dr. John Nguyen is the Senior Pastor of Vietnamese Baptist Church of Garland.
Pastor John came to the United States in April 1975, before the change of the regime in South Vietnam. He then went on to attend school in Mississippi and graduated in May 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts. He was called to Sunset Point Baptist Church in Clearwater, Florida, to serve as Assistant to Youth Program and Resettlement of Indochinese Refugees, and at the same time, worked in the bilingual program of the Pinellas County School Board. In 1980, he was licensed (and was ordained in 1982) by First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, to serve as Director of Southeast Asian Ministries.
After serving there for two years, Pastor John went on to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in December 1984 with a Master of Divinity, while pastoring Grace Vietnamese Baptist Mission in New Orleans.
In December 1984, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to become the full-time pastor of Vietnamese Baptist Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1991, he felt called to Texas to become pastor of Vietnamese Baptist Church of Garland.
Even after moving to Texas, Pastor John continued his doctorate program at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, where he graduated with a Doctor of Ministry in 1995.
Pastor John has been president of the Vietnamese Baptist Fellowship in Texas since 1992 and president of the National Vietnamese Baptist Fellowship, USA since 2008.
He and his wife Ruth live in Plano and have two daughters, Rebekah and Victoria.
English Ministry Pastor
Joseph Wright is the English Ministry Pastor of Vietnamese Baptist Church of Garland.
Pastor Joseph grew up in Tucson, Arizona. After serving the Lord for several years as a youth pastor in American churches, Pastor Joseph was called to the Korean culture. For over 10 years, he has served as both a youth pastor and an EM pastor in Korean churches.
He was licensed and ordained in April 2002. He attended Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, Nebraska, then transferred to CFC University in California, where he earned an AA degree in Pastoral Ministries and a Bachelor of Science in Theology in June 2002.
In December 2010, he completed the Advanced Master of Divinity program (M-Div) at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Once again, the Lord has called pastor Joseph to another Asian culture, where he proudly serves the Vietnamese people as the full-time EM pastor at VBCG.
He is married to Heejung (Rose), who is from Seoul, Korea. They live in Carrollton and are proud parents of Joey and Julia.
