Our Story

1983

The Vietnamese Baptist Church of Garland (VBCG) started in 1982 with an English as a Second Language Class by Pastor Trần Đào and financially supported by the First Baptist Church of Garland. One year later, the church was officially established, starting humbly with the first worship service with about 20 believers in the FBCG Chapel on November 20, 1983.

1993

VBCG forms the English Ministry, to address the needs of their English-speaking congregation.

1994

In 1988, the church established the New Building Fund with the goal of purchasing a facility for VBCG. In July, 1994, the church’s dream of having our own facility became reality: The Lord allowed us to purchase a new building, the one we’re still using today, with a price of $210,000. Two years later, church members agreed to lend money, interest-free, to the Church Committee to pay off the entire loan amount. In late 1996, the church held a “Burning the promissory note” event to give thanks to the Lord for helping the church become debt free. VBCG holds its first service in this building on September 4, 1994.

2022

VBCG launches their new Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Core Values. VBCG holds a special service on August 21, 2022, to celebrate the culmination of two years of prayerful reflection and planning.

Charting A New Course

Our next chapter is represented by our new logo, which depicts a sail boat on water. When a boat travels long enough, it will encounter adverse conditions, such as storms and rough waters. Our church has seen its share of trials, but God has graciously guided us through those difficult times and given us a new day. Like an anchored boat holding fast through a storm, we cast our anchor on the firm foundation that is Jesus Christ, the only place we put our hope and trust.

The history of our church - all that it has navigated through - is a testament to God’s faithfulness in every step of our journey. We are thankful for all that God has done through this church, and we continue to seek His guidance and vision for our future.
